ON THIS DAY

thanks to jhl,.. I was reminded of the option.
so- now you can write replies or whatever you like-
no money down. free. easy.
KITCHEN....project : today!
"Mike" and son "Mark" have been taking down the old cabinetry.
The vile, ugly orange counter top will be out of our lives forever. Amen and halleluliah!
I am sitting in a cubby typing on my lap- we have had to clear 2 rooms of clutter and
create space for the work. WONDERFUL super-son-in-law set up pc back here-
so I can stay connected while rooms are transformed.
Which reminds me- Birthday weekend was great fun. The weather was perfect the entire time- Sophia is now officially 2 and vocabulary is growing - as expected.
She looked adorable in her yellow shirt and sandals.
All sesame street characters decorated the cake. Great grandma, aka 'Gi Gi', joined us for the celebration- 4 generations.....very nice. Sophia's Dad and grandpa and a neighbor built an 'extreme' playscape - the young guests had fun with bubbles and climbing and in the sandbox- and just running around the yard. Sophia is one happy and sweet little girl.
It was a family reunion on Sunday- with all of the children together and Gi Gi-
srw will fly back to calif on thursday.
Happy Birthday-today- to Laura and Deanna- beautiful twin sisters.
Since we now have no sink- need to get some paper plates and cups- for the duration.
the microwave is in the living room and the coffeee maker in a bedroom-
it will be like camping out for 2-3 weeks-we are prepared.
it looks like the tear- down will be done today.
Bach Essences: I just found a small vial of "mustard" - we have had excellent experience with
Floral essences- if you would like info- post here with an email address and I will help.
"Mustard" is used for inexplicable sadness...I will have to do more research to find what is good for "Explicable" sadness !
We had 12 dry days and today a light rain is falling with warm temps- refreshing.
I am very tired from days of activity- but now- I can sit back and watch the guys work.
Tomorrow - a drive to the airport and another sad farewell.
I hope to get out to san diego before the end of the year.
Thanks to Ali in Istanbul for Birthday greetings for Sophia-
Enjoy your day

noon on tuesday

We are gearing up for a festive weekend of
company, family gathering and birthday party.

Friend JVB has been moved to St Mary's hospital in San Fran - all reports
indicate progress.

No word from contractor on starting date for Kitchen project.
New dishwasher arrives 4/25; project will not be
completed til after that date.
we started this process in January.

Weather- very nice - a bit cool..sunny.
2 days of serious house cleaning begins ...

The State of Michigan has been sending bills to internet buyers of tobacco for
taxes on those purchases. The State demanded lists from esmokes.com.
So far, we don't know of any other site which may have been served a subpoena.
There is much confusion on the part of consumers re: tax laws covering internet purchases and
some smokers believe this is discrimination b/c of the immense loss of tobacco sales and taxes over the past year. Some consumers believe lowering the tax would stop any alleged smuggling and increase sales within the state. In other words the 2$/pack 20$/carton is a regressive tax.
Others are demanding the State begin sending bills to internet consumers of everything else-books, clothing, etc for the 6% sales tax which buyers are expected to report to the state and pay.....
I believe eBay is answering some requests from states for lists, too.
A Lansing spokesperson claims that Land's End is the only company cooperating with state laws and reporting lists of persons who have purchased from them.
The law states consumers are required to report their purchases and pay tax to the state.
Attorney Generals of several states have persuaded credit card companies to not allow transactions for cigarettes.
Kentucky, Virginia and Native Retailers have just lost their Goose with the Golden Eggs.
Enjoy your day~~

Private Caller

that's what the caller ID said- well sometimes a few people we know call us that way- so I picked up....
...... it was a taped message from Tommy Lasorda !- with a script urging support of this administrations' plan for social security....
I don't know this guy- I don't even remember why I know his name......some sports-related figure ? This NOBODY is going to tell us what he thinks of this plan for soc sec and I am supposed to pay attention- because he is ..what.?.a famous name ?? an old former athlete ?? this feels like a final straw......what is he selling? vinyl siding? carpet cleaning?
Day after day - there are more and more intrusions of privacy & domestic news of corruption, lies, distortions,
greed, injustice and more and more intrusion by THE STATE - not my 'home' State- but THE STATE as in Fascist/communist terms.... In 38 years of political/ social consciousness, I have not seen anything like what has been happening before our eyes.
Please people - I feel like a Tom Payne right now- & no one is reading this-
I won't give you web links to moveon.org or the like- find your own way to help combat
the omnipresent assaults on our constitution. Speak up- speak out -copy and paste things and send to everyone you know........
Pay attention- write your Representatives-Senators/ be an active citizen-
We all have enough to worry about and things we need to do to pay bills and survive-
why do we now have to worry about what we say and to whom we say it- ? Are we going to continue to 'blame' U bin Laden for throwing us off course? Too easy- that's what
the current powers that be wish. Not so; in the name of 'security' we are getting hit over the head with plans and agendas that are 60 years old-
Certain people have been trying to dismantle The New Deal since it hit the streets.
Your liberty, freedoms, paychecks, health insurance are at stake and those of children and grandchildren.....
DO SOMETHING..........please .....at the very least- get informed.
and enjoy your day ~~

April/online security

ON THIS DAY
On April 4, 1968, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., 39, was shot to death in Memphis, Tenn.

Spring is here where we live. The Blakesley's, next door, are home from their 2 week Florida Spring vacation.
I have been looking for online security - a free download for virus scanning and a firewall- any suggestions?
Installed Kodak hardware/software for easier sharing of photos-
you may have rcvd one over the weekend.
We'll see if that was worth the time and space.
Cancelled the aol account- no one was using it much- saving $60/year.
We use comcast for our internet connection and I am unsure of the security there.
Also cancelled hbo- saving another $180/year. Netflix is less expensive and more convenient.
The person we have historically relied on for reliable info on internet issues is currently sitting in the 'day room' of a hospital in san francisco.....getting better- now taking food, & having physical therapy, but still has inserted feeding tube. Waiting to hear he won't need that anymore- going to be a long road back.
On the home front, DH spread a yard of mulch in the front yard- looks very fresh and attractive.
Yes- State lost to NC- in the NCAA final four. Sad, they just did not even look like the same team in the 2nd half.
