noon on tuesday

We are gearing up for a festive weekend of
company, family gathering and birthday party.

Friend JVB has been moved to St Mary's hospital in San Fran - all reports
indicate progress.

No word from contractor on starting date for Kitchen project.
New dishwasher arrives 4/25; project will not be
completed til after that date.
we started this process in January.

Weather- very nice - a bit cool..sunny.
2 days of serious house cleaning begins ...

The State of Michigan has been sending bills to internet buyers of tobacco for
taxes on those purchases. The State demanded lists from esmokes.com.
So far, we don't know of any other site which may have been served a subpoena.
There is much confusion on the part of consumers re: tax laws covering internet purchases and
some smokers believe this is discrimination b/c of the immense loss of tobacco sales and taxes over the past year. Some consumers believe lowering the tax would stop any alleged smuggling and increase sales within the state. In other words the 2$/pack 20$/carton is a regressive tax.
Others are demanding the State begin sending bills to internet consumers of everything else-books, clothing, etc for the 6% sales tax which buyers are expected to report to the state and pay.....
I believe eBay is answering some requests from states for lists, too.
A Lansing spokesperson claims that Land's End is the only company cooperating with state laws and reporting lists of persons who have purchased from them.
The law states consumers are required to report their purchases and pay tax to the state.
Attorney Generals of several states have persuaded credit card companies to not allow transactions for cigarettes.
Kentucky, Virginia and Native Retailers have just lost their Goose with the Golden Eggs.
Enjoy your day~~

    good info- John- thanks-
    taxes here have become ridiculous
we can go over the bridge to windsor canada and buy duty free- 2 cartons /person and one needs to stay over night 48 hours....or at least 'claim' you are staying over night..
this is what is known as a 'regressive' tax-
packs here are 5-6$ There is alot of talk of bars and saloons going out of business b/c smoking is banned- in Ireland, Minnesota. NY.
